User Guide: Athena AI Voice Companion 🤖🎙️
Athena Helm features a state-of-the-art voice-controlled crew assistant. This allows single-handed sailors to execute physical yacht commands while keeping both hands securely on the wheel.
🎙️ Supported Voice Profiles
You can swap between several onboard personas using the companion panel selector:
| Persona | Speaking Tone | Primary Use Case |
|---|---|---|
| Athena Standard | Calm, metric-focused, super-intelligent pilot computer. | High-seas passage monitoring, emergency alarms. |
| C-3PO Tactician | Polite, highly calculated, slightly anxious protocol droid. | Precision regatta checks, safety briefings. |
| R2-D2 Companion | Playful robotic chirps translated inside brackets. | Casual cruising companion, audio feedback. |
| Sea Captain Salty | Seasoned, nautical, old salty sea-dog telling ocean tales. | Leisurely sailing storytelling, conversational routing. |
⚡ Active Voice Commands
When you activate the microphone (or type on-screen), Athena listens for contextual naval patterns:
💡 Lighting & Electrical Commands
- "Turn on the deck lights" / "Deck floodlights on"
- "Dim cabin lights" / "Cabin lights off"
🌪️ Bilge & Mechanical Ventilation
- "Check bilges" / "Clear bilge pumps"
- "Run engine extraction fans" / "Fan status"
🧭 Navigation & Sail Controls
- "Stabilize helm" / "Engage pilot computer"
- "What is our current batteries depth" / "Solar yield check"
📶 Off-Grid Fallback (No Internet)
When sailing past cellular coverage zones:
- Athena automatically downgrades request handling to a clean, fast onboard offline rule-engine Parser.
- Standard telemetry checks, fan toggles, and safety alarms will still execute immediately on the ship's local computer.
- Conversational "chit-chat" requiring remote LLMs will queue up, or resolve via your custom Raspberry Pi local Ollama deployment if configured.
